Lesson objective: Using a graphic organizer, students will corrrectly complete a 5-bubble character web to create a five sentence character sketch with 100% accuracy.

Anticipatory Set: Students will asked to draw a picture of their favorite person, (mom, dad, sister, friend). Then they will be asked to describe that person. I will then tell them that similar to their, drawing their words were also able to sketch particular traits of a person. This is what we call character sketches.


Lesson Opening: To gauge student engagement, we will watch a clip of Spongebob. Students will be asked to pay attention to how the characters act.




After viewing the short clip, I will introduce the character sketching graphic organizer. Together, we use a graphic organizer to denote specific things about the main character Spongebob.

Lesson Body: To continue with the lesson, I will inform the students that they can use this graphic organizer to create what is called a character sketch. Using the character web, we as a class will compose a five-sentence paragraph character sketch of Spongebob. We will then practice using the character web again with Mr.Krab 's character and again create a short character sketch.

Evaluation: As students will pair with another student to create 5-bubble character web and either create a five-sentence paragraph character sketch of each other or give a one-minute dramatization of their partner's character.
